What bone broth is

Bones, connective tissue and joints, simmered low and slow — ours for 72 hours — until collagen, gelatin, amino acids like glycine and proline, and minerals dissolve into the liquid. The bones themselves are removed and discarded: what remains is the nutrition without the splinter risk that makes cooked bones dangerous.

What it genuinely offers

• Gelatin and collagen. Building blocks associated with joint and gut-lining support. Useful as part of a good diet — especially for senior pets and large breeds.
• Appetite rescue. Warm broth over food is the most reliable trick we know for pets recovering from illness, stressed by travel, or simply being dramatic about a new food.
• Light nutrition on sensitive days. After stomach upsets (and with your vet's blessing), broth offers gentle calories and electrolytes while the gut settles.

What it doesn't do

Bone broth is a supplement, not a meal — it lacks the protein, fat and micronutrient balance of complete food, and no broth "cures" arthritis or disease. Claims that broth alone transforms joint health outrun the evidence. Think of it as a genuinely useful topper: hydration plus a nutritional bonus, delivered in a form pets are eager to take.

How to serve it

• Pour 2–4 tablespoons (small pets) up to half a cup (large dogs) over meals, warmed to room temperature.
• Freeze it in ice-cube trays — summer enrichment that doubles as a slow-licking boredom buster.
• Use it to soften freeze-dried treats for senior pets with tired teeth.

One warning for home cooks: pet-safe broth must contain no onion, no garlic, minimal salt — which rules out nearly every stock cube and most human recipes. Ours is made for pets from the start, in chicken and beef.
